Family Photos at the Lake | flower mound family photographer

If you saw my post yesterday, I had the opportunity to get my hair and make up done for a mini photo shoot at Styling Hutch. So, I couldn't let that good hair day go to waste, right?! So Brad and I packed up a picnic dinner and took the boys to Murrell Park at Lake Grapevine to play. And, by 'play', I meant 'take a few family pictures of the 5 of us together for once!'. Murrell Park is about a 3 minute drive from our house so we love going there to let the boys play, explore, hike, climb, and get dirty. This night was no exception as it was an absolutely gorgeous night thus perfect for spending an hour or so at the lake as a family. Unfortunately when we got there I realized my camera battery was just about dead so we scrambled to take photos as quickly as possible. So, no real candid and lifestyle photos of them playing like I usually take. However, using a tripod and remote, I was able to grab a couple that were {mostly} in focus before the camera died.

Model for the Day | dfw storytelling photographer

I have naturally curly hair which, while pretty and relatively easy to style, means I need to get my hair cut by someone who specializes in curly hair. I found my stylist Claudia from The Styling Hutch in Plano, TX over ten years ago and she does a fabulous job with my hair. I have since moved to Flower Mound Texas, but I make a trip back once or twice a year for her to cut my hair because I don't trust these curls with anyone else! She asked a couple of us ladies to come to the salon today to get our hair and make up done for a mini photo shoot. Being that I am around boys all day, every day, I thought I might take her up on the offer of being girly for an hour or so. So, I got my hair styled, make up done, took a couple pics...done and done! Of course, being the crazy photographer, I had to try to capture the experience and tell my story through pictures. This was a tad difficult since I couldn't move much and was basically confined to what I pictures I could get sitting in a chair. I didn't even get a final picture! (mainly because I was embrassed to take a ANOTHER picture of myself in the mirror! ha!) However, I am not letting this cute hair go to waste...I am taking the fam to the lake for dinner and a little family photo session. I will post those soon!

Easter Program Performance | flower mound family documentary photographer

This week Matthew performed in his last pre-school Easter program at Rock Pointe Church in Flower Mound. He is such a ham at home that I was not surprised that he did really well and was a star in the making. As always, I had my camera at the ready to capture some sweet pictures of him in his performance, trying to get as many candid photos as possible. We also took this time to take a couple family photos so we can remember who was there to support Matthew in his school performance. I love our family picture but I wish John could have been there too! (and in case you missed it, here is the post of photos from his Christmas performance when the was the cutest wise man ever!)

Workshop Favs | dfw documentary photographer

Over the weekend I went to a photography workshop that happened to be held 5 minutes from my house in Flower Mound. So I figured I might as well try it out even though I knew it wasn't the same style of photography I am drawn to and am doing with my clients. With the exception of the first photo of the lady, these seem to fit my documentary and storytelling style better than loosely posed lifestyle portraits that we were doing in the workshop. It is interesting how with one set of models, different photographers can get different look in their photos that match their own styles!

The Densons | flower mound family photographer

Last weekend I hung out with the Denson family in North Richland Hills, TX and photographed a snippet of their afternoons together. On this particular day, I was able to capture the moments of getting ready for the afternoon's festivities, tapping into the creative side of the crew with play-doh, and baking treats for a party Emily was hosting that night. Emma's personality was shining through that afternoon as she showed her love for play-doh and her crazy-silly-fun-loving attitude. I also saw that she has a special connection with Daddy which is so sweet to see! I loved hanging out with the three of them and wanted to share some of my favorite photos from that quick session.

Bison Coolers | dfw photographer

Have you heard of Bison Coolers? They are fancy coolers perfect for hunting, sporting, etc and keep ice frozen for days. I did a quick photo shoot for them in Dallas over the weekend for images for their latest pink soft pack and a giveaway promotion. I thought I would share some of my favorite photos here today.  This was a fun departure from my normal documentary style photography and I love how they turned out!
