February's 5 on 5

For this installment of the project 5 on 5, I decided to share a couple photos of when I caught the boys on camera using their imagination in an adorable way. We had tent poles out and they decided to pretend to fish off the second story landing which looks into the living room downstairs. They were having so much fun so I grabbed the camera. I also asked Brad to grab the ladder so I could try to get some photos from different perspectives. The whole play time was short lived because of a broken pole, but did end on a high note when they caught tootsie rolls supplied by Daddy.

A Wednesday Morning - blog circle

Last week my parents watched Thomas for a little while as I was photographing a friend's family. Once I was done with my session I met them at Thomas' gymnastic class followed by a quick lunch out. Usually Thomas and I go straight home from gymnastics so a lunch with Grandma and Grandpa was a nice treat! Thomas and my dad passed the time by doing patterns with sugar packets. After lunch we burned off a smidge of energy in the grassy area before heading back home for naps before getting the big boys from school. Our Wednesdays are very laid back at this point in our lives and I am thankful for the easy day with Thomas and love the special visits from my parents!

Three o'clock in the afternoon around our home is basically a chill-out time. We will have just walked through the door from school pick-up (pick-upS depending on the day) and the boys want to immediately head to the wii or ipad. On this particular day I would love to say we played for a while because it was rainy and cold, but this is our typical day. So, whatevs. After everyone has their turn with their device of choice, then it just time to hang out and play until dinner. Every once in a while I throw in a chore of having them unload the dishwasher for me for good measure. And really that is just because I don't want to do it so I have them pitch in by doing it for me. Today was not one of those days. Since it was rainy I only took photos of the wii/ipad time on this particular day however, the next day I was upstairs with the boys in the playroom. I looked out the window and exclaimed 'Look what I see!!'. John said in a very unimpressed tone 'The light. You are going to get your camera'. They know me so well by now! So I dragged out the tripod so I could be in the photos as we read books on the couch. I swear these look posed, but they aren't. Matthew really is that snuggle-y and you can see why I get excited when we are in there at the exact right time- the light is perfect! After we read books I handed the camera over to Matty B for some diaper changing documentation. And that about sums up a typical 3:00-4:00ish day at our house! Nothing spectacularly exciting but it is still fun to capture these small moments.

5 on 5: A Family Hike

As we are nearing the end of Christmas break, we have spent more time in our pjs than not, and more time on ipads and the new wii game that I care to admit. So we rounded up the kids, put on warm clothes, and headed to Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA). This was our first visit to LLELA and we all really enjoyed it. We only went on a short hike (a mile hike with kids takes forever!) but we will for sure be going back to check out the other trails. One of the highlights was visiting an old homestead. Matthew said he was glad he didn't live back then because he didn't want to live in a log cabin. John said one of the houses was dark, asking 'where are the lights'? Definitely a good learning experience for these little kids! The boys even indulged me when I asked for a family photo, putting to use my new pocket pod bean bag Brad got me for Christmas!

These photos are part of a documentary project: 5 on 5. Please be sure to go to Eboni's blog to view her five photos.

Meet Baby Blake | flower mound family photographer

My friend Amy had a baby boy last month so I happily took some photos of her new family of five. I stopped by one day for his newborn photos and then spent an hour one weekend as they hung out around the house. Big sisters absolutely love their baby brother and you could see how much fun this family has together. The girls loved being carried around like a sack of potatoes by Daddy, pretending to be a vet in the playroom, and playing with their beloved dog in the backyard. I am reminded how the third kid just is along for the ride, and luckily Blake didn't fuss the whole time I was there. This family is absolutely precious!
