Boy Meets Creek | Carrollton Family Photographer

If I haven't mentioned it before, I am honored to be part of a wonderful group of women photographers, DFW Clickin Moms, who are extremely supportive here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. This week we met up to practice taking photos of our favorite subjects- our kiddos! At a super cute creek in Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, the kids had a blast splashing, wading, and throwing rocks while the moms had a blast testing out their shooting skills. Us moms shared photography tips, lent out lenses, and simply socialized. I love being part of a group that tries to help everyone become more successful in what they do, rather than competing with each other. This is a rare find and I am glad I went out of my comfort zone to meet up with a bunch of people that I had never met in person before.

 

I told the boys this was a new creek to explore, however, they have been here before. We used to live in The Colony and visited Arbor Hills often. In fact, when John was in preschool, I used to load up Matty B in the jogging stroller and jog (slowly) the 2 mile loop trail. On one of our last visits to the park three years go, the boys splashed in the same creek. I couldn't resist adding some of my cell phone pictures. My sweet boys are growing up!

How Boys Play | flower mound children photographer

Last week after tearing the boys away from the ipad and cell phone, I found them playing in my bedroom. I have three boys so I don't have much to compare to, but I would venture to guess that boys playing is a bit different than girls playing. These two kids reminded me of little bear cubs that you might see on tv. They rolled around tugging, pulling, poking, laughing, pushing, and squealing. All day long I say 'Be careful!', 'Not so rough!', 'No hitting!', 'Be gentle!', 'Watch out for Thomas!', 'Quit jumping from the couch to the ottoman!', 'Someone's going to get hurt!', 'Don't come crying to me when you get hurt!'. One day they might listen to me, but until then this is how boys play and how they have become inseparable.

And Baby Makes...5 | newborn photographer, flower mound tx

Recently I photographed this sweet Flower Mound family as they welcomed their third baby boy. Desiree and I met over a year ago and bonded over being 'boy moms' as our kids were in the same playgroup. Photographing and documenting these newer moments as her family added another newborn baby boy to the brood was special and I enjoyed watching the whole gang, including Grandma, play in the backyard on a gorgeously sunny evening in Texas. As I photograph more families, watching the family's interactions are so interesting to me and I absolutely love capturing the love in my frame. I find it so meaningful to visually show what is not easily explained with words. Desiree's family was all boy- fun, silly, energetic, and most importantly, loving. From waiting for Daddy to come home, to playing in the backyard, this family was simply too cute! Here are some of my favorites from this latest newborn photography session.

Hiking with a Toddler | child and family photographer, flower mound

When we moved to our house in Flower Mound just under three years ago, I knew I loved our house. Little did I know we couldn't have found a better location for raising three boys. I am not sure how I didn't know this before moving in, but we live just over a mile from Lake Grapevine where we often take the boys to explore at Murrell Park.  Going through our neighborhood we can also access the trail system that runs near the lake. The boys absolutely love going on 'hikes' especially because there is a small creek which is perfect for boys who like to throw rocks into the water. When we walk along these trails, I can hardly believe I am in Texas, let alone the suburb Flower Mound! I really think we were meant to buy a house here. So, today I loaded up Thomas in the jogging stroller, took a quick run, and ended up at the trails. Thomas then led the way as he explored the trails while I tried to do a mini storytelling photo session with my cell phone. These are all unedited photos and I unfortunately do not have an iphone so the photos aren't the best. Nonetheless, I wanted to share how even with a cell phone, you can still document the small things in your life that are meaningful to you. I love these walks with my boys, and it is extra special when I can spend quality time with one boy at a time. So I am thankful to be able to capture these moments and details of what my life with a 2 year old boy is like. I challenge you to find what is unique about your story, your family, your location. Now photograph and document it so your family will be able to revisit that part of your story when they are older.
