Recently I spent a little bit of time with this laid back family from Flower Mound, Texas. Erin wanted family photos now that the 'baby' is a year old so we just took a walk down to the pond near their home where they typically search for 'trolls' in the trees and throw tree seeds into the pond. Three kids aged five and under certainly keep these parents busy but the love was shining through on this overcast morning!

How Boys Play | flower mound children photographer

Last week after tearing the boys away from the ipad and cell phone, I found them playing in my bedroom. I have three boys so I don't have much to compare to, but I would venture to guess that boys playing is a bit different than girls playing. These two kids reminded me of little bear cubs that you might see on tv. They rolled around tugging, pulling, poking, laughing, pushing, and squealing. All day long I say 'Be careful!', 'Not so rough!', 'No hitting!', 'Be gentle!', 'Watch out for Thomas!', 'Quit jumping from the couch to the ottoman!', 'Someone's going to get hurt!', 'Don't come crying to me when you get hurt!'. One day they might listen to me, but until then this is how boys play and how they have become inseparable.

I was over the moon last week to see that two of my photos were featured on photography websites! It seems so silly, but I feel a little validation in my photography journey when someone unbiased likes my photo, and it happened TWICE last week. :)

Euphoric Capture featured this sweet photo of Thomas crying. I love how emotional and moody the photo turned out!

Fearless and Framed featured this photo as party of their 'Honestly Documented' weekly series. This is my son and niece at his pre-k celebration. They were certainly ready for summer at this point!

A Day In the Life | Flower Mound Family Photographer

Last week I joined in the Day In The Life fun along with Ali Edwards. I have done this with my own family before (like this one almost a year ago and even my first one  ever without any pictures) and love doing it. Looking back at our day is so fun and I know this will be wonderful to revisit in a couple years to see how life has changed. From two breakfasts to two school drop offs to a visit from the tooth fairy, I love these days and am happy for it to be documented. 

What I loved most about this activity was seeing the video I made of our day put together. It is more powerful than just clicking through photos. I was able to realize how much I love this kind of photography and I hope that other families realize how special this is- to see their family in real life, the daily routine, the little moments. This is much more meaningful to me than posed portraits in a grassy meadow, which are pretty and great for display on a wall. But I want the every day events photographed too.
